Welcome To George and Helens Fish Bar

About Us

The all Electric Fish Fryers, as it was originally known was taken over by George and Helen in 1967. In 1971, the fish and chip shop was renamed after the co-founders. In 2015, under the management of son Kostas, the shop was refurbished and modernised to keep up with modern fast food trends to include an extended menu whilst still maintaining the original Traditional outlook.

Still family owned, George & Helens is now run by third Generation Tony, with his close associate Darren at his right hand side whilst second generation Kostas helps with the overall running of the shop. As a family, we are proud to be serving the local community for over 53 years and are grateful to all our customers past and present.

We have been fortunate to have been visited by celebrities in early years, Roger Tongue who played Sandy Richardson in the 1970s famous hit series Crossroads Motel was a regular customer. Bernie Winters, part of the duo of the famous comedy partnership Mike and Bernie Winters also used to be a regular.

In 1981, Birmingham held the Miss Europe contest where contestants had to engage in a very traditional British manner and so the Television Studios contacted George and Helens to produce a recording of the contestants eating Britains finest traditional meal. More recently, George & Helens has been visited by both Danny Dyer when filming for his Danny Dyers deadliest men series and Dynamo the magician. Famous T.V, radio broadcaster and author Stuart Maconie has also popped in at George & Helens and in one of his most recent books called Adventures of the High teas proudly included our shop for its renown long-standing reputation as one of the nations longest family run fish and chip shops in the country.
